I hadn’t heard of it before and I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to tell me, anon. I read up on it a bit on wikipedia (which is, granted, not the best of sources but it’s a start):
[The Leeds Revolutionary Feminist Group] argued that women should abandon support of heterosexuality and to stop sleeping with men, encouraging women to rid men “from your beds and your heads.” While the main idea of political lesbianism is to be separate from men, this does not necessarily mean that political lesbians had to sleep with women; some chose to be celibate or identified as asexual. The Leeds Revolutionary Feminist Group definition of a political lesbian is “a woman identified woman who does not fuck men”.
personally I think it’s a load of bullshit. “You have to stop being attracted to men in order to be a feminist and also call yourself a lesbian even though you’re not attracted to women just to oppose heterosexuality”?
I kind of understand it in terms of defying heteronormativity but taking a sexual identity, changing it’s meaning and using it as political statement sounds horrific to me.
if sexuality was a choice I definitely wouldn’t be into men. Why would I choose to also be attracted to trashy guys when there are all those incredible women and nonbinary people out there. At some point I would have gone ‘forget men, they’re horrible’ but nope, I didn’t get to choose and now I’m stuck with being into these trash lords as well.
self diagnosing is so hard because everytime you’re like “maybe I am mentally ill” theres also a big part of you going “nah you’re probably just a naturally lazy/nasty/disgusting/useless person trying to find an excuse for your behavior” because of the institutionalized ableism that runs through everything
